Box Score 2 SELDEN, NY - Dutchess dropped both games of a doubleheader against Suffolk County Community College on Saturday by scores of 7-6 and 12-4.
In game one, the two teams exchanged leads multiple times in what turned out to be a very tightly played ballgame.
Nicole Winglovitz led the Falcons offense by driving in four run in the loss while finishing 3-for-3.
Alyssa Macario also chimed in with a pair of hits and starting pitcher
Alyssa Pfitscher tacked on and RBI of her own as well.
Pfitscher also did more than her part on the mound in game one. Starting and finishing the game, the freshman was hurt by three costly errors which makes her overall line look pedestrian. Only one of the seven runs Pfitscher allowed was earned as she scattered 8 hits while finishing with three strikeouts.
Jackie Chester and Paige Baker led the Suffolk offense each collecting multiple hits for the Sharks.
In game two, Dutchess fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 12-4 loss. Suffolk was able to put a nine spot on the board through three innings of play, which ended up being too large of a deficit for the Falcons to overcome.
DCC plated four runs in the fourth inning showing some signs of life. The big inning was thanks to a RBI from Winglovitz, Pfitscher, Macario, and sophomore catcher
Taylor Travis.
Cori Augustine earned the win for Suffolk, throwing five innings, allowing five runs, ten hits, striking out one, and walking one.
Alyjah Cruz took the loss for the Falcons, going four innings, surrendering 12 runs, only 7 of which were earned, 16 hits, and walking one. A brutal six errors in this one for Dutchess ultimately became their downfall.
Also contributing to the 16-hit affair for Suffolk were Jessica Perente, Baker, Jamie Perente, Courtney Lawrence, and Laura Galligan who each collected multiple hits. Suffolk's solid defense was the difference in this one as the Sharks didn't commit a single error in the field.
Next up for Dutchess softball is a road doubleheader against Nassau Community College on Tuesday, April 18th at 3 p.m.
