Queensborough Takes Two from Dutchess Softball

4/20/2017 2:11:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BAYSIDE, NY - The Falcons dropped both games of a doubleheader at Queensborough on Wednesday, losing game one 14-6 and game two 6-4.

In game one, Dutchess fell behind early and couldn't recover. Queensborough came out strong and after two innings found themselves up 7-0. Even once DCC got on the board with a pair of runs in the top of the third, QCC answered right back with four more in the bottom half. It was just about sealed up at that point.

Despite the loss, the Falcons did collect eight hits in the ballgame. Multi-hit games from Sara Ruiz, Taylor Travis, and Danielle Kauffman was not enough to propel Dutchess to victory in this one.

Nicole Chavez, the centerfielder for the QCC Tigers, led the offense going 4-for-4 on the day while driving in four runs.

In game two, Dutchess and Queensborough passed the lead back-and-forth, but eventually QCC prevailed. The game was tied at four with in the bottom of the sixth when Keri McDonald singled off of Alyjah Cruz, driving in a run to put the Tigers in front. They would add another onto the score to make it 6-4, which would eventually be the final.

Cruz took the loss for DCC, but had a very gutsy performance. She went six innings, giving up six runs, 11 hits, and striking out three, while throwing 116 pitches. The sophomore was aided by strong defense from her teammates behind her, which had been an ongoing issue in previous games.

Travis went 2-for-4 at the plate as she led the team with two runs batted in. Cruz and Sierra Ramos also added RBI in game two. The Falcons were helped out by the Queensborough pitching staff that issued 12 walks in this one, four of which drawn by Alyssa Macario. Dutchess had runners on base in every single inning at the plate. One would have to assume that with a couple more timely hits from the Falcons, this one may have turned out a bit differently

Queensborough collected 11 hits in game two with Keri McDonald, Katerine McDonald, Glorinel Feliz, and Crystal Petiton each collecting multiple hits for the Tigers.

The Falcons get a chance at redemption against Queensborough in a home doubleheader on Thursday, April 20th at 3 p.m.
