Box Score MIDDLETOWN, NY - Dutchess capped their season series with Orange County Community College with a high-scoring 19-12 victory on Sunday, in what was a postponed makeup game from Friday.
After both teams had showed signs of high-powered offense in their doubleheader on Saturday, both lineups exploded in this one. Sophomore shortstop
Stephen Richards led the way for the Falcons going 5-for-6 with two runs batted in.
Amarali Khan also made his presence felt adding five RBI to the 19 run cause.
Pitching and defense were an afterthought in this game. A combined 39 hits and 14 errors made Sunday a wild game to witness.
Dutchess found themselves in a 5-0 hole after three innings of play, but took the lead for good with eight runs in the fourth. DCC continued to tack on to their lead with multiple runs in the fifth, sixth, seventh, and ninth innings. Home runs by
Jonathan Lezette in the fifth inning and
Erik Merrill in the seventh were the highlights offensively. Seven Falcons collected multiple hits: Richards, Khan, Merrill,
Brandon Greenspan,
Blaine Johnson,
John Wheeler, and
Andrew Thrasher.
Connor Rhoades finished 4-for-6 for OCC and Derek Vega drove in three runs to lead the team offensively.
With this victory, the Falcons won the season series against Orange 3 games to 1 and now stand at 13-6 on the season and 8-4 within Region 15. A road game this Thursday at 4 p.m. against Ulster Community College is next on the slate for Dutchess.
