DCC 2024-25 Athletic Year in Review

Individual and Team Athletic Honors 

On Monday 5/5/25, faculty and staff members, student-athletes, and coaches from all sports teams have convened to honor and recognize their team and individual accomplishments in Falcon Hall at the Athletics Awards and Recognition Ceremony.   This school year proved to be a great success for Dutchess Athletics competing in 6 traditional athletic programs as well as co-ed Esports program at Dutchess.  

The Men's Basketball team had its best regular season in history, finishing in 1st during the regular season and being nationally ranked all year; including #1 to end the 2024-2025 regular season.  The team won a Region 15 Championship and attended the D3 National Tournament where they finished 7th in the country. The Women's Softball team captures its first Region XV Championship since 2014, just two years removed from returning to competition post-pandemic.  And finally, the DCC Esports Program Overwatch 2 team captured their 2nd consecutive Tier 3 National Championship in Spring 2025. 

Men's Soccer coached by Julian Austin and Zach Reid 

Men' Soccer finished with an overall record of 2-12-1.  The team did not advance into the postseason.  Congratulations to the Men's Soccer team.  We thank Coach Austin and his staff for all their hard work with DCC MSOC and we look forward to another successful season next year.

  • Sophomore Recognition (5) – Tristan Evans, Mamadou Fall, Ezequias Hoffman, Andrew Morocho Lopez, and Matthew Petty. 

Women's Volleyball coached by Frank Sanfilipo, Didi Spero, Tim Millholm 

Women's Volleyball finished with an overall record of 14-13.  The team were Runners Up for the Mid-Hudson Conference Championship and lost in the Semi-final Round of the Region XV Tournament. Congratulations to the Women's Volleyball team.  We thank Coach Sanfilippo and his staff for all their hard work with DCC WVB and we look forward to another successful season next year.

Women's Basketball coached by Tyrone Moultrie and Curtiz Simpson 

Women's Basketball finished with an overall record of 3-14.  The team did not advance into the postseason.  Congratulations to the Women's Basketball team.  We thank Coach Moultrie and his staff for all their hard work with DCC WBB and we look forward to another successful season next year.

Men's Basketball coached by Robert Piano, Conor Maisch, Justin Kinlock, Matthew Randolph, and Ian Umpierre 

Men's Basketball finished with an overall record of 26-3.  The team was Nationally Ranked for the entire season, finishing their regular season as the #1 Ranked Team in the Nation.  The team was the #1 seeded team in the Region XV Tournament, winning a region Championship and advancing to the National Championship Tournament where they finished 7th overall.    Congratulations to the Men's Basketball team.  We thank Coach Piano and his staff for all their hard work with DCC MBB and we look forward to another successful season next year.

Women's Softball coached by Chip Watt, Cassidy Watt, and Gabriel Baez 

Women's Softball finished with an overall record of 10-16.  The team was the #3 seed in the Region XV Tournament and won the Region XV Championship.  The team was defeated in the Northeast District Tournament by CC of Rhode Island. Congratulations to the Women's Softball team.  We thank Coach Watt and his staff for all their hard work with DCC WSB and we look forward to another successful season next year.

Men's Baseball coached by Al Hammell and Tyler Hammell 

Men's Baseball finished with an overall record of 3-21.  The team did not advance into the postseason. Congratulations to the Men's Baseball team for a successful restart to the program and we look forward to competing in 2025-2026 with our returning student-athletes and incoming freshman class.  We thank Coach Hammell and his staff for all their hard work with DCC BB and we look forward to another successful season next year.

Esports coached by Jesse Navarra and Nathaniel Bogart 

The Esports Program finished the academic year with a Tier 3 National Championship for Overwatch 2 and a Runner Up finish for the Call of Duty Team.  Congratulations to everyone who participated in Esports this academic year and thank you for all of your hard work.  We thank Coach Navarra and staff for all their hard work with DCC Esports and we look forward to another successful season next year.   

  • Spring 2025 Call of Duty Team – Tier 3 Runner Ups - Aaron Small, Jan Barahona-Colindres, Nathanial Bogart and Jesse Navarra 

  • Spring 2025 Overwatch 2 Team – Tier 3 Champions - Noah Landaira, Isabella Ramirez, Jadyn Yee, Ben Pauselius, Jack Argyle

Student-Athletes of the Year  

Women's Athlete of the Year – Kayla Baez 

  • 24-25 VB: 27 matches as Middle Blocker - 2nd in 160 kills and 258 points, 19A, 91 digs, 36 blocked shots and 24 blocked assists 

  • 24-25 SB: 27 games as Pitcher/Hitter – 39 hits, 23RBI, 26 runs, 8BB, .476 AVG, .538OBP 

  • Pitching – 12-11 5.23ERA and 176 strikeouts 

  • All region 1st Team, All American Nominee, and Tournament MVP 

  • Dean's List in Fall 2024, GPA 3.46, CUM GPA on 3.65 

Men's Athlete of the Year – Prince Kamate 

  • 24-25: 27 games – 15.4ppg, 4.9rpg, 2.5apg - All Region 2nd Team, All Tournament Team 

  • 25-26: 14 games – 14ppg, 6.4rpg, 3.1apg – On his way to an All-American Season and a 1st Team All Region Selection and Season MVP before a season ending injury. 

  • Committed to Utica University where he will continue his scholastic-athletic career.   

  • CUM GPA 2.81

Academic Honors 

  • MHC Honorees – 24 credits earned in 2024-2025 with an associated GPA of 3.0 or better 

  • Region XV Honorees – 24 credits earned in 2024-2025 with an associated GPA of 3.25 or better 

  • NJCAA Honorees – 24 credits earned in 2024- 2025 with an associated GPA of 3.6 or better 

  • NJCAA Team Honorees – Minimum team of 10 players with team GPA of 3.0 or better 

National Championship Honors  

  • Spring 2025 - NJCAA DIII Men's Basketball National Championship in Utica, New York #7 finish 

  • Spring 2025 NJCAA Overwatch 2 Tier 3 Champions   

Social and Recreational Opportunities 

The Athletic Department will sponsor Open Gym session Tuesdays and Thursday from 12M-2PM each week during the activity period.  Students who are interested in specific social and recreational activities have been in contact with the Athletic Department to schedule specific free play hours for smaller groups of students. The Athletic Department is also working to schedule additional optional batting practice sessions during the week for interested students.  The Athletic Department and Esports Program is also working on setting up activities in the Esports Arena to allow students and faculty/staff to use the space for social and recreational events.  

Community Involvement  

  • 1/8/25 – Interviews with Architecture Firms for Multi-purpose Turf Facility project begins 

  • 2/2/25 – 11th Annual Officials v. Cancer Tournament (5 Boys' high school games from 11AM – 6PM) 

  • 2/26/25 – Boys' and Girls' MHAL Championships (2 games at 5PM and 7PM) 

  • 3/27/25 – Students/Faculty/Staff Basketball Game – 12PM in Falcon Hall 

  • 3/29/25 - Falcon Hall hosted the Poughkeepsie Children's Book Festival 

  • 4/5/25 – Falcon hall hosted Dutchess County Regional Science Fair 

  • 4/12/25 – Falcon Hall hosted the Dutchess County Health Fair 

  • 4/16/25 – Falcon Hall hosted DCC Career Fair 

  • 4/17/25 – Falcon Hall hosted Dutchess County Job Fair  

  • Summer 2025 – Falcon Hall hosts Green Teens Project weekdays in the afternoons 

  • Fall 2025 – Falcon Hall will host Kingston YMCA Basketball Summer League Championships 

  • National Fitness Campaign – Fitness Pad Project behind Falcon Hall - discussions currently on-going.   

  • DCC On-Campus Multi-Purpose Turf Facility Project pending – Anticipated opening in Fall 2026 

  • Tennis Court and Recreation Space – pending project for renovation of courts behind Falcon Hall - discussions currently on-going.  

Professional Development  

  • Athletic Director Matthew Paquet was elected as the Region XV Men's Assistant Region Director for a two-year term. AD Paquet currently sits on the NJCAA National Committees for DIII Football, DIII W Volleyball, and DIII M Basketball where he assists with the weekly national polls, tournament seedings, All American selections, and reviewing Championship Bid submissions.  AD Paquet attended the NJCAA National Convention in Denton, TX April 13-17, 2025.  

  • 5/21/25 – DCC Athletic Department hosted the End of the Year Region XV Athletic Director's Meeting in Taconic Hall (Athletic Director's from the 17 2-year colleges in Region XV were in attendance)
