Box Score POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The Dutchess men's basketball team was victorious against Queensborough CC 76-73 on Thursday with the help of
James Sykes, who scored 24 points and had a pair of steals. DCC grabbed the lead against QCC on a two-pointer from
David Flores late in the second half to put the Falcons up 72-70 and managed to hold on.
The freshman Sykes, seeing a huge minutes bump due in part to the absence of sophomore guard
Jaquan Strong, shot well from the field, making 64% (9-for-14) of shots attempted as well as 50% (3-for-6) of threes attempted and also went 3-for-6 from the charity stripe.
Three other players also racked up double digit scores for Dutchess. Flores added 20 points,
Sean Salmon had a double-double with 11 points, 11 rebounds and a couple of crucial blocks. Sophomore
Joseph Pought scored 10 points, while also contributing for the Falcons were
Marsallis Faircloth (6 points, 1 rebound) and Jamel Holmes (2 points, 2 rebounds). The constant rotation of Salmon, Pought, and Faircloth proved to be really beneficial for the Falcons on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball as all three big men put in strong efforts.
The men now travel to Connecticut on Saturday to face off against Post University's JV team before they head into winter break.
