Box Score Virginia Wheatley scored 16 points to lead Dutchess to a 45-42 victory over Kingsborough CC on Sunday. The Falcons clinched their lead in the fourth quarter on a two-pointer from Wheatley.
The Falcons fell behind early, trailing 24-22 by the half, only to come back hard in the final two quarters. With 16 points in the final quarter, DCC had a solid finish to the contest.
The sophomore Wheatley paved the way for Dutchess, making 46% (6-for-13) of shots attempted while also sinking all four of her free throws attempted.
Azzelea McLeish hit double digits, scoring 11 points for Dutchess (4-for-10). Also helping the cause for The Falcons were Taylar Scarpelli (9 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal), Azuzena Santiago (6 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals), and sophomore Rose Spuhler (3 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals).
Dutchess shot a combined 81% from the free throw line in this one, which ultimately was the difference, as their counterpart shot only 62%.
