Box Score SELDEN, NY - The Dutchess women's basketball team defeated the number 4 seeded Suffolk Community College on Tuesday in the first round of the Region 15 Division III women's tournament, by a score of 49-42.
Leading the way, as she has done all year, was sophomore
Kiana Nichols with 17 points. Nichols fouled out late in the fourth quarter but the Falcons remained focus and played solid defense down the stretch.
Olivia Malles added 10 points to the cause.
Dutchess Head Coach Thomas Mullins was asked what the keys to victory today were, he replied with "Defense. Defense has been our primary focus all season. We've held all of our opponents under 60 points, with the exception of Hostos and Sullivan, but that has been the key for us." Coach Mullins was also asked how this season compares to previous ones, and said "We've been able to put together a good mix of guards and post players to really allow us to spread the ball around and attack from different angles"
The women now play the number 1 seeded Hostos in the semifinals this Saturday, March 4th at 1 pm at Westchester Community College.
