The Dutchess Women's Basketball team wrapped up their first semester with a win over Laguardia to bring their record to 3-6. The Falcons are scoring the 4th most points per game in region while also leading the region in free throw shooting.
Dutchess is led by Sophomore
Eva Bertiz who is the Region XV leading scorer and 6th in the country. To go along with being a top 6 scorer, Bertiz averages 14.3 rebounds per game which is 2nd in the country and 3 blocks per game good for 5th in the country. The Sophomore has 2 20 point 20 rebound games this year and in her best scoring performance she scored 38 points to take down BMCC, the 2nd highest scoring output by a Falcon over the past 10 years.
Backing up Bertiz are Freshman
Kamira Sutton and
Amelia Turner. Both Sutton and Turner average double digit points and are the teams leading 3 point shooters. Sutton's best game came in a win over Queensborough, she scored 22 points grabbed 7 rebounds and distributed 4 assists. Turners best performance was in a win over BMCC where she recorded her first double double scoring 18 points and grabbing 16 rebounds.
Sophomores
Avion Pugh and
Melody Sanchez have had standout performances in wins this year. Pugh had a game high 19 points and 3 steals in the win over Laguardia in the last game of the semester. Sanchez scored 13 points and grabbed a game high 4 steals in a win over BMCC.
Sophomore
Katrina Carmel and Freshman
Angelina Nesheiwat both provide value that has helped the team. Carmel is the team's assist leader and 3rd on the team in rebounding. Nesheiwat has provided 2 double digit rebounding performances off the bench.
Dutchess will return to play in the New Year, they will host Kingsborough CC at Falcon Hall on the DCC campus on January 17th at 1pm.
